Adobe has finally released an iFilter for the 64-bit version. Why this has taken so long is still a mystery. However, when I installed it in my Moss environment by following the instructions I ran into some problems. All Icons in the search result ended up as missing. Not only the pdf.gif icon but all of them.

After some troubleshooting I found out that I had been to quick on the copy and paste of the line that should be included in the DocIcon.xml to see that the instructions actually is missing a very vital slash “/” at the end.

This is how the instructions look:

<Mapping Key=”pdf” Value=”pdf.gif”>

And this is how it should look:

<Mapping Key=”pdf” Value=”pdf.gif”/>

 See the slash at the end of the line?

Change that, restart the osearch and w3svc service, make a manual crawl or wait for your scheduled crawl to take place and you will finally find those darn pdf-file in your search result.

    Hi, i just installed the Adobe PDF iFilter 0 for 64-bit, but when i start a complete crawl i get an Error:

    “The filtering process could not process this item. This might be because you do not have the latest file filter for this type of item. Install the corresponding filter and retry your crawl.”

    I read that i need to install Windows Search on the Server is this right?.

    Something else to know. We use 2 Servers one with the Database and the other with Moss could this be another Problem?

    Thanxs Peter
