This is a summary from x presentation: Deep Dive into SharePoint 2010 My Sites and Social Networking Architecture held at the SharePoint conference 2009.
Social Networking is finally here for the enterprise! Everyone that has a facebook account (how doesn’t?) will recognize themselves in the new My Sites. Activation Feeds, social tagging and a notes page is just some of the features included.
But as an IT person the most interesting things in this session was the new central picture library for My Sites, and actually not only for My Sites. You will be able to push your pictures back to the AD (with some configuration of course) so that other applications like Outlook or the communicator will be able to use the same picture. This is then done by auto sizing of the pictures. It will make three sizes:
32×32 for use in SharePoint
48×48 for use in AD and Client Apps
96×96 for Profile page
What’s also new is the Knowledge Mining which is what happened with the Knowledge Network. What this means is that you will be able to extract information like skills and interests directly to your My Site. With a plugin to Outlook you will be able to get keywords that you then can approve to be published to your My Site. This gives a much better way to find the right people within large organizations and not only find them through the organization browser. The Organization Browser is however much improved and looks great!
