In the late hour of 2009 it’s time to summarize the year that has gone by. A year that has mainly been focused on the economical downturn (gosh aren’t we tired of that word by now?) that I think most of us have seen in one way or another. But let’s leave that and focus on the SharePoint year 2009.
I think that many of you agree that most of the year has been a long waiting for more information about the 2010 version. Some of us was lucky enough to get our hands on the Technical Preview during the summer but it was not until in November that the public beta got available. (http://technet.microsoft.com/sv-se/evalcenter/ee388573(en-us).aspx)
It was a bit of a disappointment that it took so long and I know that many was hoping that it should have been released (as beta of course) during the SharePoint Conference in Las Vegas. 7000 SharePoint people in one place, great seminars, lovely facilities and a fantastic well organized conference made it the definite highlight of the year.
It was also the year where it really took of for PowerShell in combination with SharePoint. Yes, I know that some of the gurus within the community have done it for years but the rest of us just did not get it… at least not if you look at the posts and the amount of content that is now generated on the topic. And for all of you that have read something about the SharePoint 2010 version knows that the message from Microsoft is: Learn PowerShell. over 600 Cmdlets will be shipped out of the box.
Personally it’s been a quite hectic year with a lot of long hours (yeah, like I was the only one…) but it’s been a lot of fun and I managed to keep up with my goal of posting one post each week. It actually got 68 of them, 7 downloadable script files and 4 Poll of the month. The latter I will try to do a bit better since I was not that good in keeping it to each month.
So looking forward, I’m sure that 2010 will be a great year with a lot of new 2010 stuff to learn and work with. In March (23-24) TechDays (http://www.microsoft.com/sverige/techdays/default.aspx) in Örebro, Sweden will be held and together with Niklas Goude I will have one session on the topic SharePoint 2010 and PowerShell. If you will be there, don’t miss it, we will not make you disappointed.
Also we planning for having our book ready during the summer, and hopefully we will be able to give you more information in the beginning of next year. If you have missed it, sign up for the newsletter on our book site (http://www.sharepointandpowershell.com/)
So finally, I would like thank you all for this year and wish you all a very, merry x-mas, a good new year and see you in 2010!
