Last week the book PowerShell for Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Administrators became available for pre-order at Amazon. I’m of course very excited, it feels real and a bit scary to be honest. As mention before I’m writing the book together with my collegaue Niklas Goude and we still have a couple of chapters left but we have got some good feedback so far, both from people we meet at events and through our blogs but also from the people at Microsoft.

So who is this book for? Well, it’s for everyone working on the administration side of SharePoint 2010. Yes, this is a book about powershell but it’s not a pure developer book. We will take it from the beginning and using real life scenarios we will build solutions using PowerShell to show the strengths it has and how important it will be for SharePoint admins to master.

If you want to keep up to date with our progress on writing the book and to get information and special deals you should register for our newsletter at www.sharepointandpowershell.com or why not check it out at Amazon.

The biggest IT event in Sweden this year, TechDays, was held a couple of weeks ago and my intention was to have written this post way back but I’m really falling behind on the work done on the blog due to all time it takes writing the book but here we go.
It was 1700+ people that attended TechDays and it was a great conference, well organized and a lot of good sessions as well. I attended mainly as speaker but since Enfo Zipper was represented as an exhibitor and sponsor I hung around at our booth whenever I had the chance.

There were a lot of sessions around SharePoint 2010 and it was a thrill seeing that almost all of them draw full houses.

Niklas and I had our session; SharePoint and PowerShell in real life and we got some very good feedback and it seamed to be very appreciated. Best of all was that all our live demos ran without any problems something that was not the case in many of the sessions I attended. If you attended the conference but missed our session the are now made available here: http://www.microsoft.com/sverige/techdays/recordedsessions.aspx

We also got the results from the speakers evaluation survey and we were in the top third of the 85 sessions. In fact we were the SharePoint session that got best results, which is very nice. This session was done in Swedish but in the Australian and New Zealand conference in June this session will be held in English and then we aim for even better result! Hope to see you there!

They say that good things come to those who wait. We have waited, and finally we are now pleased to announce that the book that I’m writing together with my collegaue Niklas Goude (http://www.powershell.nu)will be published by McGraw-Hill and will hit the stores later this year. Exactly when is not yet confirmed but I will make sure you get the information!

The title will be PowerShell for Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Administrators and will be a book in three parts where the majority of the book is hands on examples on how you use PowerShell to administrate SharePoint 2010. As you probably have heard, SharePoint 2010 is shipped with 500+ PowerShell cmdlets for you as an administrator. And even if STSADM is still available PowerShell is what you need to manage to make life easy further on. Those of you who had the chance to attend the Microsoft SharePoint Conference in Las Vegas last year might remember that one of the key things from Microsoft to administrators was -”learn PowerShell!”.

So what we want to do is to go through the fundamentals of SharePoint, PowerShell and then how you combine them to master your SharePoint 2010 environment.

The coming 5 months will be a big adventure for us, it will be fun but mostly it will be many many hours of writing and hard work. Both Niklas and I will blog about the book and how it take shape, but if you are interested in getting the latest updates, sneak peeks of the content and special offers you should sign up for our newsletter. You can register for the newsletter on our web site created specially for the book: www.sharepointandpowershell.com.

They have been a couple of them before but for some reason they have always been in conflict with other things in my calendar, so I really look forward to this one. It will also be of extra interest since my friend and colleague Niklas Goude will be presenting “SharePoint and PowerShell”, and as a round up of his session we will together give a little sneak peak of “SharePoint and PowerShell – In real life“, our coming book.

The idea and planning for writing a book has been going on for a while, but now there is no turning back. Together with Niklas Goude I will write a book titled SharePoint and PowerShell – In real life.

It will be the first book ever focusing only on SharePoint together with PowerShell and a large part of the book will be hands -on and real life scenarios/examples that everyone working with SharePoint from the IT side will feel familiar with.

So far we are very much in the beginning and there is yet no deadline we can communicate. We have however put up a new web site where you can register your email address to get news and updates about the book. This site will develop along the way as our writing is progressing.

We are both very excited about our new project and we will of course keep you posted on our blogs, so keep dropping by a little now and then.

As I mentioned, we are still in the beginning and there is still some room for ideas and proposals on the content so do you have anything you want to see in this type of book just drop us a line. We would love to hear from you.

Our website dedicated to the book: www.sharepointandpowershell.com
Website of Niklas Goude: www.powershell.com
